Andy and I visited a town called Herculaneum, Italy today. Herculaneum was a town that existed in the year 79. The town was destroyed when Mt. Vesuvius erupted that year and covered the town in lava. Once the lava cooled, the town of Herculaneum was gone. Almost 2000 years later, a family was digging on their land and discovered artifacts from the old town. A group of archaeologists came in and uncovered the town that had been preserved by the lava. Here are some pictures of Herculaneum.
The mountain in the background of the pictures is Mt. Vesuvius. Before the volcano erupted, it stood at 9000 feet tall. After the eruption, it stands at 3300 feet tall.Tomorrow, we will be visiting the island of Corsica, France. See you then! From, Ms. Adams and Andy
